Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) is a common viral illness that mainly affects young children less than 5 years, 5 years children but can also occur in adults. It is caused by enteroviruses, most commonly Coxsackievirus A16 and Enterovirus 71.

Symptoms:
Fever (mild to moderate)
Sore throat
Painful mouth sores (red spots or ulcers, especially on the tongue, gums, and inside the cheeks)
Skin rash (red spots or blisters on the hands, feet, buttocks, and sometimes other areas)
Loss of appetite
Irritability (especially in young children)
Fatigue
How It Spreads:
HFMD is highly contagious and spreads through:

Direct contact (saliva, nasal mucus, fluid from blisters, stool)
Airborne droplets (from coughs or sneezes)
Contaminated surfaces (toys, doorknobs, utensils)
Treatment:
Since HFMD is viral, there is no specific cure. It usually resolves on its own within 7 to 10 days. Treatment focuses on relieving symptoms:

Fever & amp; pain relief: Acetaminophen (Tylenol) or Ibuprofen (Advil)
Mouth pain relief: Cold foods (ice cream, yogurt), sweet foods, avoiding spicy/sour foods
Hydration: Prevent dehydration with plenty of fluids
Prevention:
Frequent handwashing
Avoiding close contact with infected individuals
Disinfecting surfaces and toys
Covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
HFMD is usually mild, but seek medical attention if

High fever persists
Difficulty swallowing or drinking
Severe dehydration
Neurological symptoms (rare but possible with Enterovirus 71)
