The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting, whichever comes first.

What happens at that first visit?
It’s usually quick and gentle:
A simple check of the teeth, gums, and jaw
Advice for parents (not a big cleaning or drilling situation)
Sometimes your child sits on your lap the whole time
After that
Regular checkups every 6 months, unless the dentist suggests otherwise
